The Unwritten Revolution

Storytellers, Guerilla Fighters, Rogues & Troubadours, Journalists, and Activists of the Skysea.

A party of Scribes are known as “Verses,” each led by an Editor: an individual responsible for gathering local intelligence, verifying “Truths,” and coordinating “Erasures” (high-stakes sabotage missions).

Ruling is not their prerogative; they seek to ensure that no one else can rule absolutely.

Their primary source of income is selling “Stories” to the Oocoo NewsCoo, who then publish it and distribute it around the world.

They are the rogues of the Skysea’s “low-altitudes,” originally operating in the smog-choked docks and the forgotten floating slums where the Solar Scions’ glory rarely reaches.

Demographics.

The Scribes are more numerous than the ‘establishment’ realizes. Current estimates within their secret ledgers suggest:

Total Active Membership. ~2,400 agents across the Skysea.

35% Martianborn & Humans: Dissidents from the Martian Imperium and Humans from the Atlas Kingdoms.
20% Fomorians (Kobolds, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Orcs & Half-Orcs, Harpies, Bugbears, etc): Viewed by the Scribes as the “Tragic Epics” of the world, these “monstrous races” are employed by them.
15% Awakened Automaton: Escaped “property” from Mercantile Hegemony and Ecclesia Solari workshops.
30% Fey Species: Owlins, Satyrs, Cenaturs, Dryads, Pixies and Fairies, those who prefer freedom over the “Divine Order.”

Technology & Tools

The Scribes use reforged steampunk tech, often stolen from the Mercantile Hegemony and the Ecclesia Solari’s engineers and then modified with Ink-glyphs.

Ink-Slick Hoverboards: Designed by legendary inventor and secret benefactor the Librarian, these boards use pressurized Serulinite vapor to create a localized low-gravity pocket.  Speed: 60 ft. fly speed.
Maneuver: “The Blur.” As a reaction, the rider can impose disadvantage on a ranged attack by venting excess steam.

Pressure-Lances “Styli”: Makeshift pneumatic spears that look like Giant Ink Pens, they can fire Ink Bolts, canisters of alchemical blindness or corrosive acid that eats through the hull of frigates and other vessels.

The Palimpsest Cloak. A garment woven with optical fibers that mimics the surrounding sky, making a Scribe nearly invisible while stationary against the clouds.

Inky-Talkies. Repurposed and reprogrammed to serve as ‘walkie-talkies’, they are powered by Ink-batteries. Stolen tech from the Ecclesia Solari Church.

Brass Ink-Radio. A Dwarven invention that intercepts broadcasting spells and uses Ink to project it through a magical Ink-Mouth. Used to monitor King Dumac’s propaganda.

History

The Scribes originated in the chemical-choked lower strata of the Mercantile Hegemony’s floating trade hubs. Before they was a revolution, they were simply the scribes, record-keepers, and maintenance workers who saw how the Guildmasters fabricated shortages and exploited indentured labor to line their pockets. Adopting the philosophical stance that reality is shaped by the beliefs forced upon the masses, these early defectors realized that whoever writes the ledgers controls the world. They transitioned from victims to bards – Guerilla Journalists dedicated to exposing the rot beneath the gold.

This ideological war turned bloody during the Battle of the Shield.

The Scribes

A clandestine network of historians, journalists, and resistance fighters that operate in the Skysea. The Scribes serve as the intellectual backbone of the rebellion against Traitor King Dumac and the Cloudbeard Pirates, combining the work of chronicling history with active resistance operations.

Purpose

The Scribes believe that knowledge is the ultimate weapon against tyranny. They document atrocities committed by King Dumac and Cloudbeard, smuggle intelligence between resistance cells, and maintain the historical record of Jupiter’s true past so it cannot be rewritten by the usurper.

Leadership & Members

  • Editor Rupert – A veteran Dwarven historian, journalist, and Joy’s closest confidante. The de facto leader of the Scribes’ base of operations of Jupiter. He harbors a deeply personal motive: the Traitor King Dumac is his own son.
  • Joy – Known as the “Scribe of the Shell.” A scholar and defiant field leader of the resistance. She is missing her left arm and bears heavy scars from a confrontation with Cloudbeard.
  • ??? - Unknown leader of the Scribes in Boneshield.

Base of Operations

The Scribes operate out of an Inverted Temple deep in Carapax’s Undershell, accessible via the Deep Roads. They share this base with the Bhan-Ember resistance fighters.

Alliance with the Soul Shepherds

The Soul Shepherds allied with the Scribes upon arriving on Jupiter. Their assistance — particularly in healing Forvivlad-cursed Dwarves and proving the curse is curable — has significantly bolstered the Scribes’ morale and standing.
