Deep Roads
The Deep Roads are the ancient network of tunnels, passages, and subterranean highways that run throughout the body of the Titan Jupiter (Carapax). Originally engineered by the Dwarves of Jupiter over centuries of excavation, the Deep Roads connect the various regions of the Undershell and once served as the lifeblood of Dwarven trade and communication.
Description
The Deep Roads vary wildly in architecture and atmosphere depending on their age and depth. Older sections are carved from Carapax’s own bone and calcified shell, while newer stretches are reinforced with hewn stone, Adamantine bracing, and chain-suspended walkways. The deepest roads pass through geothermal vents, bioluminescent fungi fields, and ancient subterranean lakes.
Key Locations Along the Deep Roads
- Sul Kelda-Dhrum – An ancient Dwarven fortress in the South of Jupiter’s Undershell, once thought abandoned. Used by the Soul Shepherds as an entry point into the Undershell.
- Deep Hall of the Regents – A ceremonial hall lined with statues of the Dwarven Kings of Jupiter. The 1st pedestal is missing; the 7th statue of King Dumaclath has been removed.
- Subterranean Lake Ruthaba – A mysterious underground lake. Thirteen and Bartholomew both received visions of a golden key hidden beneath its waters. A large, unknown creature lurks within.
- The Inverted Temple – The hidden base of the Bhan-Ember and Scribes resistance. Accessible by climbing a moss-covered tunnel cliff via repaired scaffolding.
Current State
Under King Dumac’s reign, portions of the Deep Roads have been repurposed as mining operations or sealed entirely to trap dissidents. The Forvivlad curse runs rampant in areas near Dumac’s forge-factories, and patrols of loyal Dwarves and Giants enforce his authority through the tunnels.
