The Trial of Jaz’Farrah
Chapter V — The Shattering of the Soul Shepherds
The Trial of Jaz’Farrah was the pivotal event at the end of the Saturn arc that irrevocably fractured the Soul Shepherds fellowship and set several major plot threads in motion.
The Setup
After defeating Jaz’Farrah at the Elephant Spire and ending the 14th Time Loop, the Soul Shepherds escorted her to Janus City and delivered her to the Jas-Sharaza Council at Elefanti Palace for trial. The charges: Treason, Conspiracy, Magical Assault, Murder, and trafficking of the sacred Regalo Fruit. Her ward Talleah voluntarily submitted to face judgment alongside her.
The Secret Plan
The night before the trial, Carter (revealed to be a Carter from an alternate timestream) confided in Silas that he needed Jaz’Farrah’s help to return to his own timestream. Together they devised a secret escape plan, aware it would likely be their last act with the Soul Shepherds.
The Trial
- Reina Akaska presented the evidence as “the Iron Feather.”
- Diallos questioned Jaz’Farrah using Detect Thoughts, uncovering a traumatized soul who genuinely believes her methods are righteous — but who twisted his questions to sow discord.
- The Jas-Sharaza Council delivered a verdict: execution for both Jaz’Farrah and Talleah.
The Escape
- Silas unleashed a shroud of magical darkness, plunging the courtroom into chaos.
- Silas used a Scroll of Power Word: Peel to tear a spatial rift in reality.
- Diallos and Virtus were knocked into the rift by the chaos.
- Finley, standing resolute, intercepted Jaz’Farrah as she fled — striking her with an airborne blow and sending her spiraling into the rift.
- Carter and Jaz’Farrah escaped together, vanishing into the sky.
- Silas dispelled the rift before it could consume the world.
- Whimsical stoically ushered Council members to safety.
- Virtus watched Carter and Jaz’Farrah escape, powerless to stop it.
Aftermath
- Silas and Talleah were arrested and transported back to Astraloftum aboard the Project A.R.K. as prisoners.
- Carter and Jaz’Farrah are at large. Carter is declared an Apostate by the Ecclesia Solari.
- Thirteen (SABER operative) is formally tasked with hunting Carter down.
- The Jas-Sharaza Council, despite the chaos, honored their debt to the Soul Shepherds and funded the full airship repair (35,000 gp).
- The Soul Shepherds departed Saturn with their fellowship shattered but their mission ongoing.
