Impassable Mountain Range — South Skysea, between Saturn and Jupiter

The Theus Skyfjords (also called the Thorianna Skyfjords in some charts) are a vast, impassable mountain range stretching through the Skyway air zones of the South Skysea. The mountains are perpetually ice-covered, with temperatures plummeting to extreme cold even in the Tradewind zone above them.

The Skyfjords must be climbed over rather than flown through — the mountains are too dense for lateral passage. The Soul Shepherds ascended through the Zephyrs air-zone into the Tradewind Zone to crest the peaks during their journey from Saturn to Jupiter.

The Giant Ambush

The Theus Skyfjords were the site of a brutal surprise attack by the Cloudbeard Pirates, who used the mountains as cover to ambush the Project A.R.K.:

  • Gunhild Stormson (“Runemaiden”) — Stone Giant Corsair, attacked from one side with Abyssal Hyenas and four Hill Giant Goons. Polymorphed into a turtle by Milo and sent gliding into the Skysea.
  • Air Hjorgin Stormson — Ice Giant Corsair, attacked from the opposite side with a second boarding party. Fought Virtus in a brutal duel before triggering a massive avalanche that buried Virtus and left her with a permanent facial scar. Died in an honorable final duel with Bartholomew, requesting with his last breath that Bartholomew tell Admiral Cloudbeard the tale of their legendary fight.
  • Freezle the Measle — Enlarged Kobold arcane fuelman. Killed himself and almost took Thirteen and Diallos with him via a Contingency Fireball.

Rescued During the Ambush

  • Joy — Scribe of the Shell; rescued from captivity aboard the enemy vessel Misty Stalker. Missing her left arm; heavily scarred; reunited with Whimsical (who she did not initially recognize).
  • Milodius — Titanborn bard; held captive and forced to play battle music for the giants. Freed himself using restored magic after the anti-magic shackles were removed.

Loot Recovered

From the destroyed Cloudbeard vessels:

  • 1,500 gp of unrefined Orichalcum
  • 1,000 gp of Adamantine Ore
  • Two Potions of Enlarge
  • Two Potions of Reduce
  • Scroll of Chain Lightning (given to Silas)
  • Air Hjorgin’s Helmet and Boots (taken by Bartholomew in honor of the fallen Giant)
