Maverick is an old, feathered man who operates the windmill lift that serves as one of the access routes up into Janus City on Saturn. He has a faithful flying dog named Margarine who accompanies him.

Encounter with the Soul Shepherds

When the Soul Shepherds arrived at the steep outcrop where the windmill lift is located, Jer’Emee called out for Maverick — with no response. Silas climbed up and found only Margarine and an empty windmill.

The mystery was solved when Diallos noticed a rope tied to the whirling windmill blades — Maverick was bound to the blades, fast asleep, having been tied there by hooligans who didn’t want him letting foreigners into the city. Carter halted the gears with Chronurgy magic, allowing Diallos to catch Maverick as he dropped. Margarine revived him with enthusiastic dog kisses.
