The Battle at the Well of Souls
Chapter III — Climactic Battle of the Fomorian Invasion
The Battle at the Well of Souls was the climactic confrontation inside the Great Natu Tree between the Soul Shepherds and Count von Preshons — Nirvana’s Drakebane, Fallen Lord of Yahar’gul, and father of Silas.
Prelude
The battle began after Dark Silas betrayed the Soul Shepherds, using the Brand of Nirvana to activate the Well of Souls as a shimmering mirror reflecting the Lunar Eclipse. This opened a Fomorian invasion corridor into the Great Natu Tree and Astraloftum. While Magus Xor’Ocu flew up the tree’s shaft with the main demon army to invade the city, Count von Preshons stayed behind to secure the Souls within the Well and crown the Unborn Fomorian King.
Silas opened the battle by hurling a Fireball at his father. The Count absorbed it.
Key Moments
- Carter’s Reflection — Carter used the Tome of Time’s time reversal to reflect one of the Count’s Spears of the Damned back at him, restraining the Count momentarily.
- The Dragon Form — The Count transformed into a flaming dragon, dashing through the Scions and leaving crackling green flames. He then transformed back, fixing his glasses, searching for Silas.
- Virtus’s Taunt — Virtus exploited the Count’s emotional vulnerability at the thought of having incinerated his son, forcing him to confront potential filicide. Carter landed a devastating attack during this distraction.
- The Darkness — The Count conjured magical darkness twice, using his blade Sanguinus to drain the blood and soul energy of the Scions unseen.
- The Revelation — Silas emerged from magical invisibility, alive, and revealed to his father that he killed the Countess, not the Ecclesia Solari. The Count laughed with chaotic vigor and vowed to kill, revive, and kill Silas endlessly.
- Finley Takes the Blow — As the Count attacked Silas with five lethal strikes of Sanguinus, Finley stepped in front of the final blow, saving Silas’s life at cost to himself.
- The Divine Smites — Whimsical and Virtus prayed to Tekk and Natu, receiving divine blessings on their weapons and delivering devastating Divine Smites to the Count alongside Diallos and Finley.
- Carter’s Last Stand — With the Count attempting to fly up the tree and escape, Carter channeled Magi’s power to control the Well of Souls, causing thousands of soulish hands to surface and drag the Count back down.
- Diallos’s Killing Blow — Diallos flew up with his divine wings, caught the Count’s second Damned Spear mid-air, hurled it back, impaling him, then flew up to trade final blows. As the Count fell, he looked at Diallos: “My son may not have been a suitable candidate for the Fomorian King after all, but you may certainly be the one…”
- Both Diallos and the Count fell into the Well of Souls. The mirror portal above the Well shattered on impact, pulling the remaining Scions (except Carter) into the void with Diallos.
Aftermath
- The Great Natu Tree was saved.
- Dark Silas was placed in Temporal Stasis by Carter within the Well of Souls.
- The Scions were reunited in time to face the ongoing Fomorian Invasion of the Grove and city.
