Savina Blannis, born Savina Grimsbane and known to the Commonwealth of Tormenta Navy as the “Demon Owl”, is an infamous founding member of the Weastern Pirates, the wife of Razgaal Blannis, and the current Lord Commander of the Imperial Guard for the Sang-Lothor Imperium. She is a fellow Tiefling and trusted shipmate of Khemmis, who has relied on her shot from the crow’s nest more times than he would easily admit.

After her adoptive father and mentor, Peter Grimsbane, was murdered by an unknown assailant, Savina left her hometown of Hassbith and set out to uncover the truth of his death. Captured by slavers and taken far into the uncharted Aigean Seas, she overthrew her captors and helped found the Weastern Pirates. Her journey eventually brought her to the Sang-Lothor Imperium, where she uncovered her father’s killer, settled a debt of blood, and chose to stay for love.

History

Hassbith and the Death of Peter Grimsbane

Savina was raised in a small forest village called Hassbith on Aigora by her adoptive father, Peter Grimsbane — a ranger, and the closest thing to stability she had known after the deaths of her birth parents and the destruction of her original village. She had lost everything once before. Peter’s words had carried her through it: “You’re a survivor, Savina. You’ve got strength that you cannot even comprehend.”

She returned to their cottage one day to find him dead on the floor. Throat slit. A symbol carved into his skin. A black rose left beside his outstretched hand.

Savina burned the cabin. She did not look back.

She took her bow, her daggers, her satchel, and the only thing Peter had left her: the certainty that she was built to survive this. She set off to find who had killed him.

Captured and the Weastern Pirates

Her search was interrupted when she was taken by slavers and transported to the uncharted Aigean Seas — far north of anything familiar. Whatever her captors expected from her, they did not get it. Savina overthrew them.

In the aftermath she encountered the crew that would become the Weastern Pirates, led by Tohnkh, and helped found the group that would go on to overturn Crondusa — Queen of Teeth — and liberate the city that became Weastworld. She served the crew as navigator, archer, and, when the occasion demanded it, the shot no one else could make. She also helped foil the schemes of Admiral Desmond Targonus before the crew’s legend passed into myth.

The Sang-Lothor Imperium and Kalkstein Grimsbane

Savina’s path eventually led her to the Sang-Lothor Imperium, where the woman she loved — Princess Razgaal Lothlorian — was facing an arranged marriage. On the way, Savina discovered she had a bastard brother: Kalkstein Grimsbane, a member of the Golden Council of Sang-Lothor — the same council on which Khallis sits.

She killed him. With the help of her crewmates, she learned in the process that Kalkstein had been the one to order Peter Grimsbane’s murder, contracting it through an organization known as the Black Roses. The question that had driven her across Aigora had its answer.

Savina told Razgaal the truth about her mother’s fate. Then, in what her crewmates recognized as an entirely Savina decision, she chose to stay.

Princess Razgaal Lothlorian named Savina Lord Commander of the Imperial Guard — a title that keeps them in the same place, which was the only condition that ever mattered.

Personality

Savina is someone who has lost everything twice and chosen, both times, to move forward rather than be buried by it. She is not hard so much as deliberate — her emotions run close to the surface but she has learned exactly when to act on them and when to wait. Her precision with a bow is not incidental to who she is; she is patient right up until the moment she isn’t.

She is fiercely loyal to the people she chooses, and the crew of the Weastern Pirates are among that number regardless of where the winds have taken her since. Khemmis trusts her shot without needing to say so. She trusts his instincts the same way.

The name Grimsbane was her father’s gift to her. The name Blannis is her own.

Relationships

  • Razgaal Blannis (wife)

    • Princess of the Sang-Lothor Imperium and the reason Savina stayed. Their relationship is the axis around which Savina’s later life turns — she crossed the Imperium’s politics, killed her own brother, and surrendered the open sea for her. She has no apparent regrets.
  • Peter Grimsbane (adoptive father, deceased)

    • The ranger who raised her after she lost her birth family. His murder set the course of her life. She burned his cabin rather than leave him to rot in it, and carried his words further than he likely imagined they would travel. His killer has since been found and dealt with.
  • Tohnkh

    • Her captain and one of the founding figures of everything that followed Hassbith. Savina’s trust in Tohnkh was foundational to the crew’s early identity.
  • Khemmis

    • A fellow Tiefling and crewmate. Khemmis once put it simply: she can take the shot he can’t reach, and she doesn’t miss. The mutual respect between them has never required elaboration.
  • Khallis

    • Both Khallis and Kalkstein Grimsbane held seats on the Golden Council of Sang-Lothor. Whether that proximity means anything — whether Khallis knew what Kalkstein was — is a question Savina has not yet publicly asked.
  • Kalkstein Grimsbane (bastard brother, deceased)

    • The brother she did not know she had, who ordered the death of the father she had loved. She found him at the end of her longest road and did not hesitate.
