Tears of Janus

Divine Flask — Sold to Reina Akaska for 5,000 gp

A Dinosaur-leather flask containing droplets shed by the ancient Titan Janus. Glittering gently, each tear carries the grief of the previous age. Long thought to have dried up, it seems Janus’ hollow eyes were still able to produce such a tender expression. A single drop added to food invokes deep, unbidden recollections — memories that bloom vividly, unaltered or reshaped as though dreamt anew.

Properties

In a Dish. When infused into a dish, it acts as the Modify Memory spell (5th-level Enchantment). The consumer must make a Wisdom saving throw; on a failure, they become charmed and incapacitated. For up to a minute, traumatic memories from their past may be clarified, altered, or erased according to the chef’s intent. The memory shifts permanently upon completion.

High-level chefs can alter memories spanning back days, months, or even years — deepening the tear’s potency.

Sacred Taboo

The Jas’Sharazas forbid the collection of these tears, claiming each stolen droplet pulls Janus closer to Madness. To use them risks not only divine wrath but the deep melancholy of the Titan itself.

Lore

“Titan’s Lament: Janus, the ancient Elephant Titan, strides eternally burdened by profound guilt — a penance for forgotten sins committed against the Old Gods. Its tears are fragments of sorrow and reflection, emotions felt only rarely within the Eruption Pool.”

History

Sold at the Scheppihn Auction House during the Quadrennial Meal Festival. Whimsical helped Reina Akaska win the bid, believing it sacrilege for it to fall into the hands of the undevoted.
